[When he looks up, there's something cold and vicious in his gaze.]
We leave that bastard behind. [Ango, he means, he's just refusing to call him by name anymore.] I refuse to do anything for him and if someone does make the mistake of bringing him back, I'll kill him again. After what he did to Dist, what he tried to do to Cumore, what he did to me, what he put all of us through and then had the nerve to claim he didn't want to get away with it... This is my vengeance. I will not allow him to remain with the rest of us.
I don't particularly care about any of the others aside from Pizza and obviously Dist, but that bastard remains dead. That is my one request.
[It isn't a nice one. It's easily the cruelest thing he's said to Rean and he's fully aware of it. But he's entirely too angry and bitter to care about that now. As far as he's concerned, it's a fair trade - he puts his intelligence to good use and in return he and Dist never have to deal with Ango again. It isn't fair to Dazai, but Dazai doesn't get a damn say as far as Iago's concerned.]
[ Rean felt like it was never a good sign when someone said something that was so blatantly terrible, and there was just...nothing in terms of anything he could feel. He didn't attribute it to heartlessness or anything like that, though. He was just so exhausted, and it was starting to show in little ways leading up until now.
He was silent for a good amount of time—enough that it was noticeable as he finally let out a sigh. ]
I don't think that's something I can do. There were too many unknowns, Iago. We might have to bring them back all at once, without being able to leave any of them behind.
[ There was a voice inside of him that said that Ango wasn't so much of a loss than a burden, but also he wasn't about to risk every dead's life just on not bringing one person back. Otherwise he'd leave Shin to rot.
These were things that he'd normally never think, though, but he wondered if he just stopped caring. Or...well. It didn't matter. ]
So at this time, it's not something I could guarantee. I'm sorry.
You're far too kind, Rean. I wonder if that will ever come back to bite you. Somehow, it hasn't here. I'm impressed.
[Genuinely. The nice people he's used to dealing with are incredibly stupid. Rean at least knows how and when to fight his battles.]
I agree that if it is all or nothing, then we bring them all back. I wouldn't risk Dist and Pizza just to ensure that bastard stays dead. They're far more important than he'll ever be.
[Of course someone's going to have to restrain him from trying to murder Ango the second that happens, but hey, at least that's something...]
[ Rean had a small laugh escape him at that. Considering what happened recently, he supposed it should be a miracle, but hey, it happened. ]
Haha...well, I feel like it has at least a little, if I'm allowed to be a bit honest here. When you care a lot about other people in a place like this, it makes things just naturally difficult sometimes.
[ He was very bad at showing it sometimes (though that was on purpose), but seeing these murders had hurt. And while he could never claim to say he was close to Dist as he was Iago, it was really difficult seeing someone you talked to regularly wind up dead. ]
...But, yes. I'm glad—and I'm relieved—to see that you understand that.
[ Rean will be there or Cumore could take up that position. He's preparing himself for that inevitability already. Though, one thing at a time, of course. ]
I'm very angry, but I'm willing to be rational if it will serve me.
[thanks iago, ur doin gr8]
For the time being, we need to focus our efforts on doing what we can for them and finding a way to put an end to the Lady and Rembrandt. I'm done playing around.
[His smile is sharp and pointed, far too angry to be anything genuine.]
I believe I may have some very interesting information for the group, but I want to ensure it won't get back to either of them. Rembrandt has asked me before on information from our meetings, after all.
Rean had worry about the other man's mental state, but he didn't think there was anything much he could do about it right now. Just keep an eye out for him as much as he could. ]
Yeah. Those two have had enough of their fun, and I think it's time we've put an end to their games—they can no longer be allowed to run around and do as they please. I also believe the next week will be critical for us to put those efforts into full force.
[ Rean knew they had to be stopped. Whatever it took.
Also, he realized the implications of the other's words, but he's not surprised Rembrandt would ask. He seemed like the type to pry anyway. ]
...I don't think we have anyone willing to say anything more to either of those two. Not after what they've done.
I was thinking of holding a meeting same time as usual and same place.
I don't think so either, but I don't want to take any chances. What Dist and I figured out may very well be the key to breaking this whole thing apart.
[Or they could be entirely wrong but they were pretty damn sure in their assumption and that hasn't changed even with Dist's death.]
We need to be careful with how we proceed here. I'll leave the meeting up to you and I'll get back to seeing what more I can learn from them. It's possible they'll already have figured me out, but I see no harm in one final attempt.
[They aren't going to kill him, at least. He's gotten by this far on talking to both of them repeatedly, once more won't hurt.]
...True, I think it's a good idea to be cautious after everything.
I'll have faith in that belief. I know what you're saying isn't something taken lightly, and it's not something you'd say so easily.
[ Rean seemed to have faith in Iago—or rather...both Dist and Iago. He's the type to have that sort of belief. ]
I hope they haven't. That being said, please be careful.
I don't think they'll do anything violent towards you—Rem more than the Lady. But the Lady seems to have those weird mood swings of hers. Though, I don't think I have to worry about you angering her.
[ If anything, he was just being a little worrywart as usual and he knew it. Still, he cared about Iago, so he had to say it at least. ]
I promise I won't do anything stupid. The Lady and I are usually on very good terms, actually.
[those conversations are going to be hilarious when they're unlocked.......]
Rembrandt is honestly the one I'm more worried about. I believe we stand a better chance against the Lady should it turn to a fight, but Rembrandt... That's why I want to speak with him, I need to figure out where we stand with him and where he stands with the Lady.
[Something about that execution is sitting weirdly with him, but he's not sure just what to make of it yet.]
I'm not going to let myself die here. If I do, who are you all going to rely on for tactics?
[he is super useful, please agree with him, rean!!!!]
Haha, I guess that's one good thing in all this, despite her...everything.
[ Those conversations are an Experience, aren't they. ]
Yeah, Rem would be very troublesome if we had to fight him. We've seen what he's capable of and heard what else he was during the meetings. But...I think right now he stands with the Lady, though there could be a chance to work him to our side if we have something that will convince him. I mentioned it in the meeting before last time, but he's said that their desires don't always line up perfectly.
And it's why he let Erik go instead of telling The Lady who would've definitely killed him for the infiltration.
So it's just a theory just now, but I think part of their partnership might work out in a sense that he could be indebted to her, though he's getting something out of it for sure. All the same, I wish you good luck.
[ ...And he'll smile a little here. ]
Honestly, we really do need a reliable tactician to be by our side, so I'll have full faith you'll come back just fine, Iago. Friends need to believe in each other, after all.
I don't believe he's indebted to her, I believe he's working with her because she summoned him, and is offering him something in exchange for his work. I'll be sure to share everything I've learned at our next meeting.
[but also, praise!! and o-oh.]
Friends? Well, I suppose I can't complain too much about that. I appreciate your kind words, Rean.
