[Iago's not in any rush to return to his room, so of course he doesn't have any problem talking to Rean when he approaches.]

I do, yes. In private?

[He tips his head to indicate his door.]

Not at all.

[Door's open, come on in! Iago's room is very neat and tidy, with a good stack of stationary and pens on the desk, along with... a very large collection of books that he definitely didn't steal from the bookstore, shhh.]

Feel free to take the chair, if you'd like.

[He shuts the door behind Rean.]

[Iago moves over to the bed, sitting primly as he considers Rean's question.

...Well, okay, he doesn't need to consider it at all, but he pretends to.]

Very likely, though it does depend on what the Lady does next. Should she opt not to offer us an incentive, it's likely no one will act for a little while. Now that we're aware of what exactly happens once someone is murdered, I can't see any of us being all that eager to jump into this again.

[Seven hour trials suck?? They're horrible. 0/10. He could have spent these seven hours doing literally anything else.]

But I doubt the Lady will be that generous. If she was willing to threaten the people closest to us already, I'm not looking forward to what she has in store in the future.

[A nod; he's certainly not willing to bet money that the Lady will be careless enough to skip over another incentive.

At that, though...]

I was thinking the same thing. She seemed furious with him, though I can't say I understand why. It's possible that he insulted her at some point and she's furious over something petty, but I'm not entirely sure that's the case. She was willing to talk to me, after all, even though she was rather obviously not happy about it.

[Obviously he can't say for sure, but if she really was truly that petty, he doesn't think she'd even allow him in her office to begin with.]

It's possible she really doesn't take being called a coward well, but it seems strange for her to be that furious over an insult like that.

[Hmm...]

If I was on better terms with her, I'd ask her about it. As it stands, I doubt she'd give me anything even if I was feeling bold enough to ask.

My hope is that they'll open up more if they come to like any of us, but that's certainly not something I'm expecting. We'll likely have more luck exploring and seeing what we can learn from the city.

[Though he's not expecting too much there either; he doubts the Lady would just leave anything around for them to find without a damn good reason for it.]

All we can really do for now is to keep at it. Perhaps we'll learn more about this place soon.

[or maybe more people will die, w/e!!!]

week 2 | post-trial

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-19 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[So. That trial went poorly.

Okay, saying it went poorly is understating it horribly and Iago's still furious with everything that happened there, but he's been sitting in his room for long enough to no longer be screaming into a pillow so... progress?? Progress.

Anyway, he is throwing stuff still, which you can... probably hear from the hallway... Feel free to knock if you want, Rean; he's definitely in his room.]

[The sound of something thudding against the wall stops immediately, and for a long moment, there's silence.

Then Iago finally gets the door and after a moment, doesn't bother with speaking and just ushers Rean inside. He's ditched the circlet that he always wears behind his head - that's sitting on the desk, with a bunch of haphazardly stacked books. The mask is still on, of course.

...You might also notice some other books Iago forgot to pick up in his rush to get the door, but look it's fine. He has a strength stat of 0, the books are okay.]

Rean. What can I do for you?

[He shuts the door behind him and gestures to the chair at the desk, make yourself at home, if you want.]

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-19 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
That was certainly... a little much.

[To understate it horribly.]

You didn't have to come check on me. But I... appreciate it.

[The words are a little more awkward than usual, but he's quick to move on.]

How are you after the... that. All of that.

[Gods, that was such a mess.]

[Deserved that much, huh...? What a bizarre thing to say.]

True enough. It seems we were kept in the dark about more than I expected.

[Something about that doesn't sit right with him, but he doesn't want to get into "also that guy was totally lying about his curse" because getting angry about it isn't going to do any good.

(And also he missed the mention of the geas that came up earlier, but shhh.)

That's not really what has him so agitated and angry about the trial, anyway. So it's fine, he can deal.]

Seteth, though... I do wonder what will happen to him now. I have no doubts he'll remain alive and with us, but... hmm.

[His one visible eye narrows as he considers it.]

While I don't believe Seteth would normally hurt any of us, we will have to keep an eye on him. There's no telling what they'll do - and if it will be only physical modifications or anything else.

I don't believe they'll kill us directly if they can avoid it. You saw what happened with Zangetsu today - acting out in such a way should have resulted in punishment, but she chose to spare him with a warning. They want us dead, but they don't want to be responsible for it. I really do believe what happened with Mako and Noelle was an accident, or at least not something Rembrandt was prepared for.

[This is easier; focusing on strategy and planning, on analyzing information and considering all possible angles is far easier than dealing with... well, anything that just happened, really.]

We don't know exactly what they're capable of, so we have no way to know exactly what Seteth's changes will be or how they'll interact with him - since he did say he isn't human. For now, we'll need to be careful and watch him.

[It's certainly possible that the changes will be purely physical and cosmetic and won't result in anything more, but... Well, if the Lady's experiments have already ended poorly for two people, it seems unlikely this will go as planned.]
psychophant: (✦ 92)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-19 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Precisely.

[The second part, though... Hmm.]

I don't know if there will be a way to undo whatever changes he goes through. While I agree that we should look for one, it may not be best to start assuming that we will find one. Seteth knew the stakes and made his decision anyway; I believe he's already aware that there may be no returning to how he once was.

[It's not pleasant at all, but Iago has never one to rely on optimism and hope, and he's certainly not starting now. He sees no reason to outright lie to Rean either; Rean's clever enough to have this worked out anyway.]

We'll keep our options open and continue examining our surroundings, of course. It certainly is possible we'll stumble across something at some point that will help Seteth, but we must remain cautious.
